The challenge

A specialist site buried under WordPress.

MJB Sash Cord Repair specializes in historic window restoration in Portland, Oregon. Their old WordPress website was killing their online presence with a 31 PageSpeed score and a 6.2-second load time.

The site was built on a bloated theme with massive unoptimized images and excessive plugins. Mobile visitors were bouncing before the page even rendered — which for a service that lives on local search is every customer who picks a competitor instead.

The transformation

Same business, faster stack.

The solution

Four things we changed.

  1. Modern framework.

Rebuilt on Astro — a static site generator that ships zero JavaScript by default. That eliminated the WordPress plugin bloat and thousands of unnecessary HTTP requests in one move.

  2. Image optimization.

Every image compressed and converted to WebP. Lazy loading and responsive srcset so each device gets the right size. Page weight went from 9.6 MB to 0.4 MB — a 96% reduction.

  3. Performance-first design.

Designed around Core Web Vitals from day one. Optimized critical rendering path, minimized layout shifts, and tuned first contentful paint for immediate feedback on cellular connections.

  4. Mobile-first approach.

Built mobile-first since most local contractor discovery happens on a phone. The desktop site is a larger version of the mobile one, not the other way around — the correct default.

The results

The numbers, after the rebuild.

  • 99/100 PageSpeed score up from 31 — a perfect green rating on mobile
  • 1.9s load time down from 6.2s, a 69% reduction on the same cellular connection
  • 0.4 MB page size down from 9.6 MB, a 96% reduction in bytes transferred
  • Mobile-optimized perfect rendering and input responsiveness across devices
  • SEO-ready schema markup and semantic structure that earns ranking boosts

“StyNull rebuilt our website and it’s night and day — loads faster, looks more professional, and we’ve noticed more inquiries coming in.”
